What talent crunch?
Written on April 4, 2007 by Sid
The papers are RSS feeds are full about how the IT and BPO industry are facing a severe talent crunch.
I think corporate India should shrug off its fixation with degrees and begin the design of processes and tests that test the core of a person rather than take the ‘education’ from his degree for granted. We *know* that Indian degrees from all but the top colleges are toilet paper… probably less useful, since they won’t absorb as well.
Therefore - drop the love affair with letters (ba, bba, mba, er…) and design processes that allow you to sort through massive inflows of resumes and people. Then design further quantitative and qualitative tests that shift the wheat from the chaff. What you will then discover is a huge pool of untapped, talented human power who were hitherto working for little noname companies in holes in the wall for minimum wages, because no one else would hire them.
